Our Hutchins family had their origins in the old Middlesex town of Hayes. However, by the middle of the 19th Century, they had become firmly settled on the western outskirts of London in what was then the semi-rural village of Turnham Green, near Brentford.

The listing of family names below represents the current extent of our research. The family name often appears in records spelt as Hutchings, both versions apparently being used interchangeably at times by various family members. However, in the interest of simplicity, the more usual form of Hutchins has been used throughout this list.

I have always thought that every family history should include its fair share of heroes and villains, and ours is no different in that respect! My great-grandfather, William Hutchins (b.1862), is reputed to have had an altercation with a member of the local constabulary which resulted in him spending a short time alongside the notorious Oscar Wilde in Reading Gaol. On a happier note, the marriage of William's grand-daughter, Joan Hutchins, to Mr. Robert Farahar produced a son, Clive Farahar, now internationally famous as the resident expert on books and manuscripts in the popular long-running BBC television series, 'Antiques Roadshow' (see the photograph in the Hutchins Family Photo Album)
